Benjamin C. Campbell
Co. F, 21st Regiment, Missouri Volunteer Infantry

Born 4 Sept 1831, Stark Co. Iowa
Died 14 Jan 1908, Osceola, Polk County, NE

"As a young man, Benjamin Campbell was 5'11" tall, with grey eyes, fair complexion and dark hair.   He served in the Civil War from 15 Oct 1861 to 3 Dec 1864 in Co. F 21 Reg't Missouri Infantry (Union).  He was in the battlesof Shiloh, Corinth, Murfreesboro, Pleasant Hill and Bayon De Glaise, among others.   In May, 1862, he contracted typhoid fever and was in an army hospital for 2 months.  In July 1864, after a forced march at Tupelo, Miss.,
he suffered sunstroke and collapse.   As a result of these, he was never in really good health the rest of his life."

"During the Civil War, Benjamin lost two brothers, Horace Boyles Campbell who was killed at Chickasaw Bayou , Miss. 29 Dec 1862 and Rufus E. who was killed in the Battle of Ringgold, Georgia, 27 Nov. 1863."
